Scholarship

The Dakota Walleye Classic (DWC) fishing tournament is embarking on its 30th anniversary. For many who fish it, it is not simply a tournament, but an annual family tradition. The friends, family, and competitors who meet up annually at Beulah Bay, on Lake Sakakawea, on the last weekend in July every year, do so knowing they will without a doubt make lifelong memories.

The DWC, its organizers, volunteers, and its presenting sponsors are dedicated to ensuring that North Dakota’s fishing resources are respected, protected, and cultivated in a manner that guarantees our future anglers and recreational lake users access to the exceptional lake and reservoir system we have enjoyed for decades.

In recognition of the necessity of new and upcoming young men and women entering the workforce with a passion for all things outdoors, the DWC is excited to make this announcement.

On 1/1/2025, the Dakota Walleye Classic is launching the Dakota Walleye Classic Fisheries and Wildlife Conservation Scholarship Fund. This scholarship will be available to all young adults who reside in North Dakota and will be entering their first year of college or dedicated vocational training specific to fisheries management, wildlife conservation, or state park ranger. The scholarship award will be a guaranteed minimum of $1,500. However, due to donations from tournament anglers, event sponsors, and private donations, the amount is expected to increase.

The application period will run from 1/1/2025-7/1/2025. The committee of the Dakota Walleye Classic, and its presenting sponsors will review the applications and essays from each applicant and generate a list of the top three. At the completion of the 2025 Dakota Walleye Classic on 7/26/2025, the top three winning teams of the DWC will review the essays and vote for the winner. The winner will be announced during the trophy ceremony. The tie-breaking vote, if any, will be cast by the event organizers. The scholarship funds will be paid directly to the applicant within two weeks of the vote.

Please join us in celebrating this cause, and help us create a fund that not only impacts the life of the young adult entering the workforce, but also gives back to the wildlife and natural resources we have all been blessed enough to enjoy.
